Buggy Agafay 2026: The Complete Local Guide
by a Marrakech Desert Expert

Real prices, 2-seat 500cc buggy, what nobody tells you about safety, and why Agafay's terrain is perfect for the buggy — written by Aziz, born and raised 12 km from Agafay.

From €150 / buggy (2 people) ★ 4.9 / 5 · Google reviews 30 km from Marrakech Since 2012 · 8,000+ guests

The buggy isn't just "a two-seat quad." It's a different machine — more stable, more powerful, with a sense of speed the quad can't match. On the Agafay Desert's rocky trails that constantly climb and dip, that difference is felt at every turn.

My name is Aziz. I've been running buggy rides in this desert since 2012. This guide gathers everything a customer asks me on WhatsApp before booking: the real price, how it differs from the quad, safety, and what you need to know before hopping in.

⚡ Quick Answer

The Agafay Buggy costs €150 per buggy (2 people) for 2 hours in 2026, all-inclusive (hotel transfer, helmet, gloves, expert guide). A category B driving licence is required for the driver. The Agafay Desert is 30 km from Marrakech — a 45-minute drive. Best times: 9-11 AM or 4-6 PM (sunset). Minimum driver age: 18 with a licence; passenger: 12.

Buggy vs Quad

Why the Buggy and Not the Quad?

It's the first question almost every customer asks. Here's the honest answer, without trying to sell you either one:

The Buggy Wins If...

  • You want to drive as a pair — the passenger sits beside you, not behind: you truly share the experience.
  • You want pure speed and adrenaline — the 500cc buggy is noticeably more powerful than a standard automatic quad.
  • You want more stability — 4 wide wheels, low body, less risk of tipping than a quad on rough terrain.
  • You have a valid driving licence — it's a requirement, so you might as well make the most of it.

The Quad Wins If...

  • You don't have a licence — the automatic quad requires no licence in Morocco.
  • You're on your own — no need to wait for a buggy partner.
  • Your budget is tighter — the quad starts at €40/person, versus €150/buggy for 2 people (i.e. €74.50/person).

In short: the buggy is the experience to choose for a couple or two friends who want to share the adventure, with more power and stability. If you're still unsure, our full tours comparison page can help you decide.

Safety & Licence

What You Need to Know Before Driving

The Driving Licence — Mandatory

Unlike the quad, a valid driving licence (category B) is legally required to drive a buggy in Morocco. The passenger needs no licence at all. Remember to bring your licence (the physical card, not just a photo) on the day of the excursion.

Safety — Honestly

A 15 to 20 minute briefing is given before every ride: throttle, brakes, body position, signals between driver and guide. An expert guide accompanies you on a motorbike throughout the ride, always staying within sight. After 14 years of operation and over 8,000 guests, we have recorded zero serious accidents.

What to Wear

  • Long trousers — jeans work perfectly.
  • Closed shoes — trainers or light boots.
  • Long-sleeve top — even in summer.
  • Scarf or neck gaiter — to cover nose and mouth against dust.
  • Sunglasses — under the provided protective goggles.
A Ride, Step by Step

What Happens on a Real Buggy Ride

Booking a buggy ride shouldn't be a mystery. Here's exactly how it unfolds, hour by hour:

3:30 PM — Hotel Pickup

Our driver waits for you outside your riad or hotel. The drive to Agafay takes about 45 minutes.

4:15 PM — Arrival, Welcome Tea

Arrival at the base camp with panoramic desert views. Berber mint tea, equipment fitting (helmet, gloves).

4:30 PM — Safety Briefing

A real briefing: throttle, brakes, body position, signals between driver and guide. About 15 minutes, plus a practice lap on the easy track behind camp for beginners.

4:50 PM — You Drive

Departure on a 15 to 20 km circuit that gradually climbs toward the highest ridge in our area. Your guide leads on a motorbike, checking on the group regularly.

5:15 PM — The Panoramic Stop

Stop at a viewpoint with the Atlas visible to the east and Lake Takerkoust glinting to the north. Photo break — your guide takes them for you.

5:30-5:50 PM — The Sunset Descent

The most spectacular 20 minutes of the day. A gradual return to camp as the sun touches the horizon.

6:00 PM — Tea, Return

Back at camp for one last tea. The driver takes you back to your hotel, usually around 6:45-7 PM.
